About the vision

  • Why is this called ‘Future Home?’

We want to build a church home where all people feel welcomed, cared for, and loved. But more than any of those things, we want to point all people to our future home with Jesus. He tells us in John 14:1-4 that He has gone to prepare a place for us with the Father, and we believe that everything we do here on Earth is ultimately about pointing people to that Kingdom reality.

  • What is the primary goal of this initiative?

Our primary goal in the ‘Future Home’ initiative is that every man, woman and child who calls TCC ‘home’ would engage fully. This initiative is no small task and is going to take participation and involvement from every single person at TCC.

  • What is the secondary goal of this initiative?

Our secondary goal is to raise $3.3 million over-and-above our normal tithes and offerings over the next two years. The majority of this will be used to build our future home, but a large portion will also be used for deepening our commitment to justice/mercy and church planting.

funding our future home

  • Why are we trying to raise 3.3 million dollars?

There are three aspects to this amount.

First, we need to raise $3,000,000 to fund the construction of our new building and remodel of the existing building on the property. This will cover about half of the total cost of construction.

Second, we want to raise $200,000 to help fund a local church plant. We are determined to not let this building project detract us from our desire and conviction to plant more churches. We have always, and will always, give generously to see new churches planted, locally and nationally.

Third, we want to raise $100,000 to double our Justice & Mercy Fund. We do not exist for ourselves, but for the shalom of the city God has placed us in. As such, as we embark on this building project, our desire is to give away more money as a church to those in need, not less.

  • What will be the total cost of the building?

The total cost of the project will be approximately $7,000,000.

  • So, if we are raising $3,000,000 for the building, where is the other $4,000,000 coming from?

Our elders have been faithfully saving money for years in anticipation of this project and have approximately $1,000,000 in a savings account. The remaining $3,000,000 will be secured through a loan using a financial institution that specializes in church building projects.

  • What happens if we raise more than our financial goal?

We hope this happens! If so, we will just use it to pay down our loan quicker. We don’t want to be in debt any longer than is absolutely essential.

  • What happens if we don’t hit our financial goal?

Our back-up plan is to set up a big tent on the property. Historically, God’s people have had a fondness for meeting in tents anyways :)

Joking aside. We wholeheartedly believe that God has given each of us the resources needed to accomplish this vision together! However, if for some reason we don’t achieve our goal, God is still good. The Elders and Building Team will just need to prayerfully consider scaling back the scope of the project.

  • Will we be taking on long-term debt to accomplish this building project?

Unless we receive a financial gift that is far beyond what we are expecting, yes. While we would love to pay cash for this project, it seems unlikely given the current construction costs and scope of the project.

It is important to note that our elders have prayerfully weighed the risk of incurring this debt and feel confident in our ability to repay the loan we intend to take out. In fact, beginning in January 2024, we began transferring the hypothetical loan repayment amount from our general operating account to the building fund just to prove to ourselves (and to a bank) that it was not stretching us too thin.

About the building

  • What is included in the renovation and construction plans?

The existing building on the property will be renovated and remodeled to become the new Table Kids wing. This will allow us to nearly triple our kids capacity, which as you likely notice on Sunday morning’s, is a huge need. Additionally, we will be building a new 500 seat auditorium and lobby that will connect the new construction to the existing building.

Someday, we hope to build a gymnasium space on the north-side of the property for Table Youth, but that is not included in this initial phase.

  • Who is going to do the construction?

We have hired a local architect firm named CIDA and a local contractor named Yorke & Curtis. They each have a depth of experience with both churches and Washington County – two things we were looking for in an architect/builder. So far, they have both been wonderful to work with and we are excited to see the final product.

  • When will we break ground?

This largely depends on how much money we raise with this generosity initiative. As you know, we are bursting at the seams on Sunday morning, so the sooner the better. We would love to be breaking ground by fall/winter 2025. Ultimately, this project will move at the speed of your generosity.

Financial Partnership

  • Are there ways to give assets to this initiative?

Yes! In fact, we encourage you to prayerfully consider this as an option. It can be a creative way to give generously. Gifts of appreciated property (stocks, mutual funds, crypto, etc.) can bring significant tax advantages. Additionally, real estate can be transferred to the church for a tax credit based on appraisal and eventual sale price. Stocks, bonds, and mutual funds can be transferred to the church without incurring capital gains taxes on the assets. Please consult with a professional advisor for advice in your particular circumstance. Contact Adam at adam@tablecommunity.church if you need assistance with gifts of property or stock. We would be happy to help.

  • What if I’ve never given, or don’t regularly give to TCC?

This would be a great time to start! The primary goal of this generosity initiative is 100% engagement of every single person at TCC, and that includes you. We are praying this will be a faith-building experience in our church and in your own heart and life.

  • How much should I give?

This quote of C.S. Lewis seems timely here – “I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare. In other words, if our expenditure on comforts, luxuries, amusements, etc, is up to the standard common among those with the same income as our own, we are probably giving away too little. If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot do because our charitable expenditure excludes them.”

The bigger issue – more than how much you give – is that you do it biblically. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 says, “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Everyone’s situation is unique but we are all called to give generously and cheerfully. Our prayer for you is that you step out in faith and do that!

commitment cards

  • What is a commitment card?

Commitment cards show a breakdown of what annualized giving to Future Home could look like, and they also give space for us to make commitments toward that giving over the next two years. You can see the card and an example of filling one out on our resources page here, or you can fill out a digital commitment card here.

  • When should I submit my commitment card?

We will be encouraging everyone to turn in their commitment on November 3rd. If you would like to turn it in before that date, please do so by dropping it in the tithe box on Sunday morning.

  • What if my financial circumstances change during the two-year period? Am I still obligated to contribute the amount I committed?

Your commitment to this initiative is voluntary and non-binding. While we hope you take this seriously and do your best to honor the commitment made, we completely understand that sometimes life is unpredictable. A change in your circumstances will be no surprise to God and we ultimately trust in His good provision, for both you and our church.

  • Why should I complete and submit a commitment card?

We realize that committing to a two-year giving plan can be daunting for some people. However, we are asked to commit to things all the time, from a mortgage to a gym membership. The reality is that these commitments will help our elders immensely as we prayerfully budget for this project. We carry a large fiduciary weight for this faith family and knowing how much our people have committed to this particular project helps us carry this weight with confidence.

  • How long is my commitment?

There are three parts to your financial commitment: A one-time commitment on November 3rd, 2024, and an over-and-above commitment for 2025 and 2026.

  • How can I follow along with the ‘Future Home’ journey?

We will be frequently updating everyone during our Sunday morning gatherings and we will also be updating this initiative website regularly.
